QUESTIONS

wHAT IS TRAVEL FOOTBALL?

Travel football is a competitive level of youth football where teams travel to play against other programs across the region. It requires a higher level of commitment and competition compared to recreational leagues.

WHO CAN JOIN THE MONTCLAIR COBRAS?

Our program is open to boys and girls ages 5–13. Players are placed on teams based on age and experience level to ensure the best developmental experience.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED?

We provide a SPEEDFLEX helmet, shoulder pads, and game uniforms. Players are responsible for cleats, mouthguards, practice pants, and any personal accessories.

is there a cheer program?

Yes! Our cheer program trains alongside football and performs at games and competitions. It’s open to children ages 5–13 and follows a similar seasonal structure.

Have any players gone on to play college or pro football?

Yes! The Montclair Cobras have a long history of producing top-tier talent. Several former players have gone on to compete at Division I colleges and even in the NFL.

Are parents responsible for travel and transportation?

Yes, families are generally responsible for transporting their child to and from practices and games. Carpooling is encouraged, and team parents often help coordinate rides when needed.

How is playing time determined?

Playing time is based on a combination of effort in practice, attitude, skill level, and understanding of the game. Our goal is player development and team success, and coaches work to ensure fair and earned opportunities for all players.

What are the safety protocols and concussion policies?

We follow all state and league-mandated safety guidelines, including certified coaching, proper tackling techniques, and concussion awareness. Any player suspected of a concussion is immediately removed and cannot return without medical clearance.

Is there a weight limit for players?

No — the Montclair Cobras participate in an unlimited weight travel football program, which means players of all sizes are welcome and can play without restriction. This allows athletes to compete based on age, skill, and ability rather than weight, making the game more inclusive and focused on development and safety at every position.

Are uniforms cleaned by the team after each game?

Yes. All game uniforms are professionally dry cleaned by the organization after each game to ensure they are clean, maintained, and ready for the next week. Players are responsible only for keeping their practice gear clean and in good condition throughout the season.

When do sign-ups usually start?

Sign-ups for the Montclair Cobras typically begin around May 15th each year for the upcoming fall season. Early registration is recommended, as roster spots are limited and tend to fill quickly. Keep an eye on our website and social media for official registration announcements and deadlines.
